You Need Precious Priorities
Today we’re talking all about priorities and how to set ’em straight, for good! This is one of my favorite topics because without priorities my life would be super chaotic. I’m loaded with tons of enthusiasm and I get easily inspired to take action, so working without priorities sends me in a freaking frenzy!
If you’re the type of person, like me, who needs to know EXACTLY what to focus on, or else you’ll fall into crazy overwhelm, then this is for you. You’ve got a ton of shit going on in your life right now and this is going to help you sort through the clutter. These strategies are prefect for your major life goals, big business goals or even small projects that you need to move forward.
Step 1: What do you want (specifically)?
The first thing to do is decide on what you want! This seems like it’s the easiest part, but it’s not. It’s actually the hardest and I’ve struggled with figuring out what I wanted for years. Once you know, you’ll be able to spark some momentum.
Soooooo what exactly do you want?
When I ask people this question, I get a ton of vague answers with no substance and a few “I’m really not sure”. They struggle with this question because they aren’t being honest about their desires and what motivates them. Instead of looking within and getting honest with themselves, they look at everyone around them and come up with superficial desires that don’t align with their vision. Which essentially doesn’t give them that spark they are looking for!
Step 2: Get Brutally Honest
Let’s try something different! You’re going to let go of outside expectations, look within and get brutally honest about what you want in life. What exactly are you working for? Once you actually decide on what you want, everything gets easier because you’ll be working towards something with complete clarity and you’ll be excited about it.
Step 3: Commit
You’re going to commit to achieve whatever it is that you want, no matter how big or small your goal is. Only you decide what you want and what’s important to you, no one else!
Once you’ve decided on something specific you want to achieve, THIS becomes one of your precious priorities and you’re going to put all your effort, energy, resources and time into getting the results you want. So the next time a new opportunity comes up, ask yourself, “does this support what I want?” If it doesn’t support your priority, say no in a classy way and feel good about it. I love this strategy because it’s a great way to check yourself to make sure you keep your eye on the grand prize. Don’t let shiny objects distract you.
***Quick Tip: To keep you from feeling overwhelmed and overworked, I found it’s best to have about 2-3 priorities a month. More than 3 can cause you to feel swamped and things tend to move a helluva lot slower. You know what I’m talking about here!
Step 4: Visualize the End
Knowing what you want makes this a piece of cake, but before you start taking action towards your goals, you should have the end in mind. This doesn’t mean that you have to know exactly what’s going to happen but you want to have a clear vision of what your particular situation will look and feel like when you’ve accomplished what you’re striving for.
This is about having an idea of how you would love to see things playing out so that it’s easier to work backwards to figure out the strategic steps you need to bring your vision to fruition.
How do you visualize the end?
What are the results?
How do you feel once you’ve accomplished it?
This is my favorite technique for not getting overwhelmed when working towards big goals and projects. Worrying about how to make it all happen all at once will cause frustration. GUARANTEED! This is when being super detail oriented bites us in the ass. Ouch!
You don’t have to see the whole staircase,
just take the first step.

Step 4: Focus on the very next step
Only do things that get you closer to your desired outcome. Don’t underestimate the power of breaking down your goals into bite sized chunks so that they’re manageable. Doing this will put you at ease and you’ll maintain your sanity all while striving for your goals.
Keep in mind that AMAZING things will start to happen when you take constant action. You’ll be making small wins everyday that will eventually add up to big wins. Take a moment and feel the transformation you want to have, even if you don’t exactly know how it will happen. Be patient, have faith and take the very next step.
