It’s about time you get your priorities straight, for good!
Maybe you feel pulled in too many different direction, are distracted by shiny objects or aren’t making progress on what will make the biggest impact in your life.
You know it’s time to get your priorities together when you’ve realized for the 1,000th time this year that you still haven’t made it to the gym, launched that offer or hired the help you need to take your business to the next level!
When you don’t have clear priorities in your business and life, things can feel chaotic. You’ll find that you have too many unfinished projects and you’re not doing what you’ve said you’re going to do.
And if you find yourself easily distracted because you’re easily inspired to take action, working without priorities can send you down a rabbit hole–wasting valuable time!
If you’re the type of person who needs to know EXACTLY what to focus on so you have a clear sense of direction, then this is for you!
The more you have going on, the more vital it is to establish what deserves your time and energy to make meaningful progress on what will move you closer to your life vision.
Let’s take back control of your time, business and life! Here are 5 steps you can take to get clear on your priorities:
Step 1: Define What You Want (specifically!)
The first thing to do is decide exactly what you want. This may seem simple, but for most people it’s challenging! I’ve been there too and have struggled to decide what I wanted for years, espeically in business.
When I ask people the simple question, “what do you want?”, I get a ton of vague answers with no substance. It’s either because they are too embarrassed to admit what they really want, don’t believe they can achieve it or haven’t taken the time to think about what they want in detail.
So how specific should you get?
Well, in the next 90 days…
How much money do you want to make each month? How do you want to work with people? Where do you want to go? What do you want to do? Who do you want to see? What kind of person do you want to be?!
Once you know exactly what you want to create in business and life you’ll be able to easily decide what to focus on.
Step 2: Get Brutally Honest
As I mentioned, one of the main reasons people struggle with clearly defining what they want is because they aren’t being honest about their true desires! If you find this exercise challenging, let go of outside expectations, look within and get brutally honest about what you want in life and why.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to make a million dollars, buying that house on the beach or finally starting that business you’ve always dreamed about. I’m here to tell you that only you decide what you want and what’s important to you, no one else! Give yourself the freedom to want what you want without self-judgement.
Step 3: Commit
Now, that you know what you want, it’s time to commit to achieve it no matter how big or small your goal may be. Once you’ve decided on something specific you want to achieve, it becomes one of your top priorities. That means you’re going to put all of your effort, energy, resources and time into getting the results you want.
So the next time a new opportunity comes up, ask yourself, “Does this support what I want to create in the next 90 days?” If it doesn’t support what you want, it’s not a priority! It’s easier said than done but you’ve gotta learn to say no and feel good about it. This is how you can check yourself before making other commitments and keep your eye on the prize.
Quick Tip: To keep you from feeling overwhelmed and overworked, it’s best to have about 2-3 priorities a month. More than 3 can have you feeling swamped and things will move slower.
Step 4: Visualize the End
Before you start taking action towards your goals, have the end in mind. This doesn’t mean that you have to know exactly what’s going to happen but you need to have a clear vision of what your desired outcome will look and feel like when you’ve accomplished what you’re striving for.
This is about having an idea of how you’d like to see things play out so that it’s easier to work backwards or reverse engine the results you want. When you have the end in mind, it will help you create a strategic step-by-step action plan to bring your vision to life.
Here are a few questions to put this in perspective…
How do you visualize the end? What are the results? How do you feel once you’ve achieved it?
Step 5: Focus on the very next step
This one will help you the most when it comes to feeling overwhelmed! Only focus on doing the very next step that will get you closer to your desired outcome.
“You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
Martin Luther King Jr.
Don’t underestimate the power of breaking down your goals into bite-sized chunks so that they’re manageable. This will put you at ease and you’ll maintain your sanity while striving to reach your goals.
Remember, to reach your goals you’ll need to take one step at a time! If you can take constant action and make small wins everyday, you’re making meaningful progress.
Be patient and take one step at a time.
Love,
Noelle
