Maybe it’s finally reaching your income goals to move into your dream home, losing 15 lbs. to look good in that new bikini, or figuring out how you can take more time off to enjoy life without your business falling apart.
No matter what your goals are, you can easily achieve them by strategically mapping out your next steps.
I remember wanting to improve my health by eating better foods, but I felt stuck!
I was motivated to make a change, yet nothing happened. I knew what I had to do (eat better foods), but It wasn’t until I got real with myself and clear on exactly what needed to be done did I finally take back control of my health. I realized immediately that another short term diet wasn’t gonna work for me (been there, failed at that) and if I wanted to look & feel fabulous, I had to make BIG changes that were sustainable for me.
That meant, replacing my fast food heavy diet with a high protein, bean and vegetable diet. It also meant restricting sugar from my diet 6 days of the week, with the exception of an “eat free day” where I basically eat whatever I want, whenever I want, in whatever quantity!
Once I got real with myself, I did whatever it took to figure out how to reach my health goals and I committed to making those changes. And it’s changed my life.
Fast forward a year and 6 months, and I’ve adopted this new way of eating, have never felt healthier, and have never looked back!
MORAL OF THE STORY: No matter how bad I wanted change, nothing was going to happen until I was ready to put in the work.
Now in many cases it’s gonna take for you to get real with yourself. You’ll have to be brutally honest, you might have to tell yourself hard truths that you didn’t want to believe. But how long are you willing to lie to yourself to spare your ego? I knew that a Panda Express diet with an occasional cookie, wasn’t gonna kill me, but I also knew it wasn’t helping me to look & feel fabulous.
But getting real with yourself can also be relieving. Maybe you’re honest with yourself and realize that you aren’t ready to make that BIG change that you want. There’s nothing wrong with admitting this! It’s always best to know your priorities and allocate your time and energy where you stand to receive the greatest return.
So before you begin taking steps toward a BIG change, you must first ask yourself….
Are you ready?
When you think about the big change you want to make in your life, are you truly ready for it?
On the surface, this might seem like a silly question! However, you could say that you want something, but in reality you’re not ready for it! Either because…
- It takes too much work to achieve it and you’re not willing to put in the work right now
- You don’t have the right foundation in place to reach your goals
It’s important to have a realistic understanding of what it takes to reach your goals and then be willing to do the work. Your goals must feel real for you and not like a big intangible dream.
Once you’re ready to start working towards your goal. Answer these questions with complete honesty so you can take the next steps to make your transformation happen.
1. What must happen before your change can happen?
2. What’s the biggest barrier you need to overcome to make it happen and what’s ONE step you can take to move past it?
3. Even if you don’t “feel” ready for the change, what’s one thing under your control that you can do right now to bring it closer to reality?
It doesn’t matter what kind of change you’re looking to make in your life. You can use these questions to gain insights on how you can take the very next step.
Remember, you don’t have to have a full plan to take the next step. As you start to take action, what comes next will become clearer. Before you know it, you’ll be on the right path and laser focused on making the change you want.
